The project

The Target Gender Equality accelerator programme of the UN Global Compact promotes the employment of women in management positions and aims to increase their number. The Zehnder subsidiaries in Vaux-Andigny (France) and Bolesławiec (Poland) have participated since 2022. This is another way in which the Zehnder Group is contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and laying the foundations to enable women to take better advantage of career opportunities.

By way of example, we would like to present the project undertaken at the Zehnder plant in the French town of Vaux-Andigny.

The approach

For the Zehnder plant in Vaux-Andigny, France, the creation of more jobs for women and a desire to achieve a more balanced gender ratio at the production site provided the motivation to participate in the UNO programme.

In order to optimally tackle the unique regional challenges, Zehnder is resolved to implement specific measures in Vaux-Andigny. Changing rooms and separate rooms for women are to be created and modern machinery are to be brought into the production area in order to reduce the physical demands of the work. This will enable women to work in areas that may have been unappealing before and also improve health and safety. In addition, management is seeking contact with mayors in nearby towns to find better ways of organising transport for the employees in the future.

A balanced gender ratio objectively creates a better mood within the company and is an indispensable prerequisite for its success.

Future aims

At Zehnder in Vaux-Andigny, the focus is on creating even better awareness among the management team and the workforce that employing more women contributes to the company’s success and therefore also makes economic sense. By gradually implementing the measures, the plant aims to steadily increase the proportion of female employees every year to a figure of 10% by 2030.
