Continual improvement is our goal

As a manufacturer specialising in indoor climate solutions, we bear a high degree of responsibility for the environment. Sustainable business activities are therefore essential for enabling us to continue driving growth and profitability. In the future, we want to go one step further and thus are already setting the course for climate neutrality.

    Environmental focus areas

The continuous improvement of the already high quality, service life and repair possibilities in respect of our products represents another step towards greater sustainability at Zehnder. We aim to contribute to the circular economy by using more recyclable parts and components in our products. We examine our packaging and production materials for their recyclable content and use environmentally friendly and recycled materials. In this particular area, we have already delivered successful projects in Canada, the Netherlands and Germany.

To further reduce carbon emissions during production, we use our own photovoltaic systems and procure electricity from renewable energy sources such as hydropower. Our plants in Zwolle (Netherlands), Buffalo (United States) and Graenichen (Switzerland) already generate electricity from solar energy, reducing carbon emissions and the consumption of fossil fuels. We plan to become more energy efficient and make our company more adaptable to climate-related hazards and natural disasters.

To manufacture our products in a more environmentally and climate-friendly manner, we need to reduce waste and emissions during the production process. We have implemented a consistent approach to the sorting of waste, using more sustainable materials, and have reviewed our processes. At the same time, we are reducing hazardous waste by replacing it with substances that are less harmful to the environment.

We have been focusing on renewable energy sources since 2017. Our new Center of Climate showcases our commitment to sustainability.

    Building for the future

The construction industry consumes the most resources worldwide. As such, it has a particular duty to commit to the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe carbon-neutral by 2050. In the Dutch town of Silvolde, the Zehnder Group was involved in a pioneering housing project with sustainability at its heart.

We need various used components to manufacture recycled Zehnder ComfoAir E300 units, but they must still guarantee the quality and efficiency of a new unit.
